Design Software&Process

One who works with his hand is a laborer, One who works with his hand and his head is a craftsman, One who works with his hand, his head, and his heart is an artist.

Final Portfolio 6:35 AM

I have learned a lot in this class. I'm not major in Viscom  but I still took DSP because I am really interested in it. Although it is the hardest class that I have this semester, it is the most interesting one. Everything was new for me at the beginning of the class. Time by time, I got used to it. Not only learning how to use the softwares and design process but also I learned how to manage my time. No matter how busy are you, live or dead by deadline. That is true in the real life. And I guess I already died couples of times.

I think I'm not creative enough to become a graphic designer. But if the minor for Viscom is offered, I will consider doing it becuase somehow art makes my life happier and more colorful. ^_^

Example of Best Set of Thumbnail Color Comps 6:23 AM

This is my best set because it is neat and clean. My weakness in this comp set is that my final production doesn't look exactly the same with the thumbnail that my partner and I chose. The color is different and the concept changes a little bit.

Example of Best Traditional Copyfitting and Best Marker Comp 6:00 AM

After doing copy fitting twice, I got used to it more. The first one, I didn't have trouble in calculating the text but I did in arranging it. I thought it wasted time to draw all the text boxes ahead to see how much space they were gonna take. Consequently, I have a lot of space left in back pages whereas the front pages were pretty tight due to many texts. I had to redo. The second time was much faster. I

think copy fitting takes a
huge amount of time but it can help you visually know how your design look like and create an idea ahead before producing in computer. My copy fitting is not quite accurate at some parts because of some changes. Overall, it looks close to the real pamphlet!!!
Also, I chose it as an example of best maker comp over the other comps. Unlike the marker comp for car poster, chili cookoff, or fishing magazine spread, I kept my concept from the comp to the final project. Images and colors are pretty similar to the real one except I put some sparkles around Tinkerbell.

Example of Best Creative Concept and Best use of Typography 5:38 AM

I chose the Chili cookoff poster as an example of creative concept because it is simple but different from the others. My concept is a chef holding a tray on which there is a Chili dish. Using  the letter " O" as his head, and the word "Chili" represents the dish. To make it look more like a person, I placed a hat, a bow tie, and arms for him.

It is an example of best use of Typography because the headline "Chili Lovers" and the text go well together. It is chili lovers because people who take part in the competition are the one really love chilies. The thickness and thinness of the type face also was applied into the chef's arms, bow tie to make a connection between the text and the image.

Proficiency in Indesign and Best Design 4:55 AM

Marceline pamphlet is my choice because it is the best one that I made among newsletters or magazine spreads. My concept is making a pamphlet to advertise Disney's hometown but also attract attention from both sexes. That is why I used two colors blue and pink. For the front page, my concept was an art gallery. There was an art work talking about the mickey mouse was drawing Walt Disney. And, then the quote is like a tittle for the work. The next following pages introduces about Disney's hometown. Not only is there useful information for moms and dads but also kids want to look at it because of little cute Tinkerbell that they see her in cartoon. I rebuilt 3 Tinkerbells in Illustrator and out it in Indesign. To make sparkles, I created my own brush in Photoshop with different sizes of star bursts. Then using magic wand to select those sparkles and of course clipping path to cut out the background. I placed it into Indesign, copied and pasted to create as many as I wanted.
